Real-time adjustment of transfer function for Fourier volume rendering

چکیده
Fourier volume rendering (FVR) is a volume rendering method based on the Fourier slice theorem. With an n × n × n volume data, the FVR algorithm requires O(n2 log n) time to generate a result. Because it requires time less than O(n3) does, FVR is preferred for designing a real-time rendering algorithm with a preprocessing step. We improve upon our previous work. We demonstrate that a B-spline is significantly more useful when designing a transfer function. To design an appropriate transfer function with a spline function, additional control points are required. However, the memory space required for the proposed method increases in linear proportion to the number of control points. We show that the set of control points can be clustered into groups, ensuring the memory required is linearly proportional to the number of groups. The proposed technique supports real-time rendering after adjusting the transfer function for FVR. © 2011 SPIE and IS&T. [DOI: 10.1117/1.3653264]

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملNew technique for transfer function specification in direct volume rendering using real-time visual feedback
Direct volume rendering (DVR) is a very useful visualisation technique. However, the difficulty in specifying a suitable transfer function often discourages its application to visualisation problems. This work presents a technique for providing meaningful and fast visual feedback that greatly facilitates the transfer function specification process. The feedback is based on a slice-based preview...
متن کاملInteractive Previewing for Transfer Function Specification in Volume Rendering
This paper presents a new technique for supplying meaningful visual feedback during direct volume rendering transfer function specification. The technique uses meta-data calculated during a pre-processing step to generate interactively an approximate volume rendering that is voxel-registered with a single user-selected slice. Because of the registration, this preview can easily be alpha-blended...

This paper describes Engine Room, a unifying system architecture for comparative volume rendering, fast prototyping of system components, and teaching. Engine Room’s manager-driven architecture is able to: (i) dynamically dock or link multiple thirdparty volume rendering engines to a common environment, (ii) allow each linked engine to utilize the common environment’s core functions; (iii) conc...
متن کاملAutomating Transfer Function Design for Volume Rendering Using Hierarchical Clustering of Material Boundaries
Transfer function design plays a crucial role in direct volume rendering. Furthermore, it has a major influence on the efficiency of the visualization process. We have developed a framework that facilitates the semi-automatic design of transfer functions. Similarly to other approaches we generate clusters in the transfer function domain. We created a real-time interaction with a hierarchy of cl...
